Rapper Snoop Dogg Reincarnated As ‘Snoop Lion’ For Reggae Shift

Snoop Dogg says he was “born again” during a visit to Jamaica in January, is changing his name to Snoop Lion and is ready to make music that his “kids and grandparents can listen to.” The artist known for gangster rap is releasing a reggae album called “Reincarnated” in the fall.

Snoop Dogg, who is Calvin Broadus Junior in real life, narrated in a statement that he got the name Snoop Lion from Rastafarian priests during his trip to Jamaica for the documentary Reincarnated.

“I didn’t want to be Snoop Dogg on a reggae track… I wanted to bury Snoop Dogg and become Snoop Lion, but I didn’t know that until I went to the temple and received the name Snoop Lion from the Nyabingi priest,” the rapper said. ”I went to the temple, where the High Priest asked me what my name was, and I said ‘Snoop Dogg’. And he looked me in my eyes and said, ‘No more. You are the light; you are the lion’.”


The West Coast rapper held a news conference in New York on Monday. Later he played five songs for a small crowd, including one called “No Guns Allowed.” It features his daughter.

The album will be followed with a documentary of the same name. It features him making music and will include some personal elements of his life, a producer of the film said. It will debut at the Toronto International Film Festival in September.

Katie Holmes Divorces Tom Cruise — Scientology To Blame?

Last week, Tom Cruise took daughter Suri and son Connor to an awards ceremony in New York. Meanwhile, Katie Holmes was on the other side of the planet in Taiwan. The official reason was to promote an ice skating event. Now that Holmes filed for divorce on Friday, according to People, Holmes’ Taiwan trip seems more like a warning sign than anything else.

In recent months, the couple was rarely photographed together, even when the two were in the same city. What has been spotlighted, particularly in the Daily Mail, is Holmes’ recent style. The usually impeccably dressed actress has been photographed looking like, well, a down-to-earth mom. Untucked button-downs, jeans, loosely wet knotted hair — none of which would raise alarm bells unless you were a superstar known for a meticulously managed makeover since her marriage began more than five years ago.


One stressor on the relationship could stem from Cruise’s devotion to Scientology — it’s long been blamed for his split from Nicole Kidman – and the serious allegations of his mistreatment of lower-ranked members of the religious group, as this New Yorker article pointed out.

If Holmes thought her marriage to a superstar would be a boon to her career, she was wrong. Since their union began about six years ago, her professional life has taken a backseat to being a wife and mother. That may have been her choosing, but a recent interview with Cruise in Playboy suggests an unsettled Holmes, who wanted more from her career than just being known as a superstar’s wife.

It’s something Cruise’s second ex-wife, Nicole Kidman, was all too familiar with. When asked in an interview with Vanity Fair whether women could have both marriage and career, she said of her marriage to Cruise: “I think I had to choose. I think (the marriage) would have come down to it. I suppose it wasn’t meant to be.”

Janet Jackson: I Don’t Weigh Myself

After years of yo-yo dieting, Janet Jackson is finally at the size she wants to be. Just don’t ask her how many pounds she’s dropped.

“I don’t know how much weight I’ve lost, only because I stay away from the scale,” Jackson told PEOPLE at Marco Glavianos “Supermodels” exhibit in New York recently. ”I don’t think [stepping on the scale] is healthy. You’re setting yourself up to fail and women’s bodies fluctuate every month – certain time of the month in particular – we bloat a great deal,” she says.


This time around, Jackson – who turns 46 on Wednesday – is battling the bulge with NutriSystem. She became the company’s spokeswoman in December. The singer adds that she isn’t depriving herself of her favorite foods – whether they’re on the plan or not. Still, it’s not just watching what she eats that helps her maintain. “If I’m getting ready for something like a tour, I work out six days a week. I like to switch it up. I may go for a run or bike,” she says.

As for whether she’s reached her goals, Jackson says, “I’m really happy with the way that I feel at the moment. I feel very good, and it’s been a long time since I’ve felt this good.”

Kourtney Kardashian’s Baby Bump ‘Disappears’ in Bikini Ad

Another Kardashian controversy! Younger sister Kim posted a promo ad of herself, Kourtney, and Khloe in bikinis wearing their Kardashian Kollection at Sears. The problem? Pregnant sister Kourtney, 32, looks much slimmer in the promo shot reportedly taken in late January than paparazzi photos show her at the time.

If you recall, the “Kourtney and Kim Take New York” star announced she was expecting a second bundle of joy with her boyfriend Scott Disick on November 30. The couple is already parents to adorable 2-year-old son Mason. Kourt confessed to E! that she learned the news by taking a pregnancy test five weeks before that, which means she was — are you ready for this — about three months pregnant at the time the Kardashian Kollection swimwear pic was taken!


Do you think the photo was altered? If Kourtney’s baby bump was indeed Photoshopped out, why couldn’t she have thrown on the bathing suit cover-up instead of Khloe? Kourtney’s rep didn’t respond to a request for comment. Regardless, Kourtney looks gorgeous as usual in the ad. Talk about a hot mama!

One of the people responsible for capturing the trio on film was photographer Nick Saglimbeni, who’s worked with the girls many times. He revealed to Celebuzz.com and omg! that this shoot was a lot of fun, and filled with tunes from J.Lo, Rihanna, Nicki Minaj, and Beyonce.
