LL Cool J Beats Home Intruder To Pulp

Jonathan Kirby, 56, suffered a broken nose, jaw and ribs when he encountered muscular rapper-actor LL Cool J inside his Sherman Oaks, California, home, according to Los Angeles County District Attorney spokeswoman Sandi Gibbons.

Prosecutors charged Kirby with first degree burglary as a “third striker,” which means he could face 38 years to life in prison if convicted, Gibbons said. They are asking that bail for Kirby be set at $1.1 million. Kirby was previously convicted of voluntary manslaughter in Dallas, Texas, in 1988. He also has auto theft, first degree burglary and a petty theft conviction in Los Angeles on his record, Gibbons said.

Arraignment for the suspect is not yet set, because he is still hospitalized for treatment of injuries inflicted by LL Cool J when he “physically detained” him, she said.

The family was sleeping when their home security alarm sounded at 1 a.m., sending LL Cool J into action, according to a Los Angeles Police statement. After catching the man, he held him until police arrived, police said.

Country Singer Randy Travis Arrested Naked!

Country music star Randy Travis, who pleaded no contest to public intoxication following the Super Bowl in February, was arrested again Tuesday after being found naked, smelling apparently of alcohol and lying on a remote stretch of roadway in northern Texas just before midnight, authorities said.

He was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated and felony retaliation, after allegedly threatening to fatally shoot highway patrol troopers who responded to a concerned caller who notified authorities of “a man lying in the roadway” Tuesday. The DWI offense is a misdemeanor, authorities said. Travis, 53, allegedly refused to take a blood and breath test, and was later forced to submit to a judge’s order for a blood specimen taken at a nearby hospital, Wheeler said.

“He was given a paper suit, which is a jail uniform made out of paper,” Sgt. Rickey Wheeler of the Grayson County Sheriff’s Office told CNN.

Travis was released from Grayson County jail after an acquaintance posted his $21,500 bail in cash at 10:40 a.m. Wednesday, Wheeler said. It’s not clear whether Travis was injured in the accident, though his mug shot revealed a bruised right eye and several abrasions on his face.

In February, Travis was arrested for public intoxication while sitting in his car in front of a church in Sanger, Texas. Public intoxication, a class C violation of the municipal code, is an offense typically disposed of by the Sanger courts with a fine and a 90-day probation.

Do you think Randy Travis’ intoxication problems is getting serious? Should he start getting professional help to curb this habit?

‘Jeffersons’ Star Sherman Hemsley Dies At 74

Sherman Hemsley, the hot-tempered, upwardly mobile, janitor-turned-dry-cleaner-owner George Jefferson in TV’s iconicThe Jeffersons, has died at 74. Hemsley died at his home in El Paso, Texas, police say. A cause of death was not immediately known.

The actor, who first played the role in All in the Family – going head to bigoted head with Carroll O’Connor’s Archie Bunker – went on to embody a softer character, Deacon Ernest Frye on TV’s Amen. Born in South Philadelphia, Hemsley dropped out of high school to join the Air Force. He returned to Philadelphia and worked for the U.S. Postal Service, while taking acting classes at night. After performing with local groups in Philadelphia, Hemsley moved to New York to make his Broadway debut as Gitlow in Purlie.

While touring with the production, television writer and producer Lear contacted Hemsley to play the role of Jefferson on his new sitcom, All in the Family. Hemsley hesitated to accept but Lear held the role open for him and two years later, Hemsley joined the cast. Less than two years after Hemsley made his television debut, he and All in the Family costar Isabel Sanford were given their own spin-off in The Jeffersons. The series earned Hemsley Emmy and Golden Globe nominations in 1984 and 1985 respectively.

In 1986, Hemsley was cast as Deacon Ernest Frye in the NBC series, Amen. The role would last five seasons, ending in 1991. Although he retired from television acting, Hemsley joined Sanford through the late ’90s and early 2000′s to reprise their roles as George and Louise “Weezy” Jefferson on guest spots. Hemsley had no wife or children.

What do you think is Hemsley’s cause of death? What would you miss most about Sherman Hemsley as an actor?

Details of Matthew McConaughey’s Proposal To Camila Alves

When Matthew McConaughey surprised longtime love Camila Alves with a Christmas Day proposal last winter, he made sure to savor the moment.

“It was the last gift to be opened and I wrapped it in seven different boxes so Camila would have to keep unwrapping,” McConaughey tells PEOPLE of the rose-cut Cathy Waterman engagement ring he’d buried inside. “She got the ring, I took a knee and asked her to marry me and take my name. After a bit, she conceded … thankfully.”

That vintage-style engagement ring — and wedding bands by Kathy Rose — weren’t the only diamonds to dazzle at the couple’s June 9 at-home nuptials in Austin, Texas. Completing Alves’s collection of bridal jewels were two pieces by Neil Lane: an elegant diamond headpiece and 10-carat earrings, featuring pear-shaped center diamonds, to help give her “a very romantic, soft look,” Lane tells PEOPLE. “She wanted to wear her hair back with the glamorous earrings.”

The platinum bridal headband, designed initially as a bracelet and accented with pearls and diamonds, “has a beautiful Edwardian, art deco feel,” Lane says. “[It's] vintage without being too old-fashioned. It’s an exquisite, romantic look.”

Tim Tebow Inspires Thousands to Attend Texas Easter Service

Tebow-mania reached new heights Easter Sunday, as thousands of worshippers descended on a central Texas town to catch a glimpse of outspoken NFL quarterback Tim Tebow.

Nearly 15,000 worshippers flocked to Celebration Church in Georgetown, Texas, about 20 miles north of Austin, Sunday morning to hear the newest New York Jet speak. Traveling over 100 miles to get there in some cases, churchgoers gathered in fields for a music-filled outdoor service. And dozens of school buses began to arrive before sunup Sunday, with Tebow fans eager to catch a glimpse of the deeply devout Christian football star.

Citing a church spokeswoman, the AP reported that Tebow recently reached out to church Pastor Joe Champion about visiting his congregation. Easter Sunday happened to the best date for the football star, she said. “In Christianity, it’s the Pope and Tebow right now,” Champion told the congregation Sunday morning. “We didn’t have enough room to handle the Pope.”

During the service, Tebow joined the pastor on stage for a 20-minute interview. “It’s OK to be outspoken about your faith,” said Tebow, the son of former Baptist missionaries who became known in his college playing days for wearing Bible verses in his eyeblack. Asked for his thoughts on what the country needs to improve, Tebow cited a line from the Pledge of Allegiance, Sports Illustrated reports.

“First and foremost is what this country was based on: one nation under God,” he said. “The more that we can get back to that.”
