Wes Welker’s Wife Apologizes For Dissing Ray Lewis On Facebook

Wes Welker's Wife Apologizes For Dissing Ray Lewis On FacebookIn the hours after the Patriots lost the AFC championship, Wes Welker’s wife, Anna, had the following to say on Facebook:

“Proud of my husband and the Pats. By the way, if anyone is bored, please go to Ray Lewis’ Wikipedia page. 6 kids 4 wives. Acquitted for murder. Paid a family off. Yay. What a hall of fame player! A true role model!”

‘Conflicted’

You can understand why Mrs. Welker would be so frustrated; she’s not the only one conflicted about the praise being lavished on the controversial (and, over her husband’s team, victorious) Ray Lewis. Alas, there will be much more to deal with before the game is over.

‘Emotional and irrational’

Later, Anna Welker apologized, saying in a statement:

“I’m deeply sorry for my recent post on Facebook. I let the competitiveness of the game and the comments people were making about a team I dearly love get the best of me. My actions were emotional and irrational and I sincerely apologize to Ray Lewis and anyone affected by my comment after yesterday’s game.

“It is such an accomplishment for any team to make it to the NFL playoffs, and the momentary frustration I felt should not overshadow the accomplishments of both of these amazing teams.”

Well, some scathing words Anna Welker published on Facebook! But which side are you on — Team Welker or Team Lewis?

ESPN Apologizes For Ben Roethlisberger’s ‘Drink And Drunk’ Typo

ESPN Apologizes For Ben Roethlisberger’s 'Drink And Drunk' TypoWe live in a text-and-information-heavy sports society, so it’s not surprising that every now and then a typo slips through. But some missteps are more unfortunate than others, as with the mistake on ESPN’s “Monday Night Countdown” involving an assessment of Pittsburgh quarterback Ben Roethlisberger.

‘History with alcohol’

As you can see, someone gave Big Ben the description of “drink and drunk.” It was, in all likelihood, a misspelling of “dink and dunk,” referring to Roethlisberger’s quick-hit, short-pass style.

Unfortunately, Roethlisberger also has a bit of a history with alcohol, including “excessive consumption,” in the words of commissioner Roger Goodell, in an incident that led to a four-game suspension in 2010.

‘Awfully coincidental’

Later in the evening, ESPN host Chris Berman apologized for the mistake. “Earlier in the show we had a graphic error in the rundown,” he said. “We apologize for the mistake. Not sure how it happened. It won’t happen again.”

Now, we won’t speculate on whether this was a joke that ended up backfiring (probably) or a case of someone not proofreading their work (awfully coincidental). It is awfully easy to get words out in front of an entire country without a ton of editorial oversight, so we can see how this kind of mistake could be made. We’re betting there will be a bit more ticker oversight from now on.

Do you think this “Drink and Drunk” typo was indeed a typo? OR was it intentional?
