The latest edition of “Bizarre Celebrity Feuds” is here. This week’s stars: Jon Hamm and Kim Kardashian. The tiff began when Hamm (best known as Don Draper on AMC’s “Mad Men”) gave an interview with the U.K.’s Elle magazine. Hamm apparently has a problem with reality TV culture.
“Whether it’s Paris Hilton or Kim Kardashian or whoever, stupidity is certainly celebrated,” Hamm said. He continued, “Being a [expletive] idiot is a valuable commodity in this culture… You’re rewarded significantly.”
Not surprisingly, Kardashian was none too pleased by the statement. The reality star took to Twitter to voice her own opinion. “Calling someone who runs their own businesses, is a part of a successful TV show, produces, writes, designs, and creates, ‘stupid,’ is in my opinion careless.”
Taking the high road, Kardashian then says, “I respect Jon, and I am a firm believer that everyone is entitled to their own opinion and that not everyone takes the same path in life. We’re all working hard, and we all have to respect one another.”
We looked at some of the more than 3,700 comments from Yahoo! TV readers, and a great many side with Hamm. Deb from White Rock, Canada, writes: “THANK YOU JON!! I agree 100%. These so called ‘reality’ shows encourage and applaud bad behavior and influence our kids in the most negative ways possible. These everyday people have become a media hit due only to their controversy not their talent. It’s shameful.”
But Kardashian does have her defenders. “You don’t make that kind of money unless people are willing to pay for your products. I don’t think they’re stupid at all, but enterprising and playing a rare streak of good fortune. It’s not like they’re being paid out of your tax dollars.”
