U.K. World Cyclists Killed In Thailand

U.K. World Cyclists Killed In ThailandA British couple’s round-the-world cycling odyssey ended in  when both of them were killed in a road accident in Thailand. Peter Root and Mary Thompson, who had been chronicling their journey in a blog, died Wednesday when they were hit by a pickup truck in a province east of Bangkok, Thai police said Monday.

‘Both experienced cyclists’

The couple, both 34 and from Guernsey in the Channel Islands, left Britain in July 2011 and had cycled through Europe, the Middle East, Central Asia and China. The trip was a once-in-a-lifetime experience for the couple, who met in art school and spent six years saving money and planning their journey, Peter’s father Jerry Root told the Associated Press in an interview. He said they were both experienced cyclists who knew the rigors and risks of extended bicycle travel.

The couple had been posting photos and details of their trip on the website Two on Four Wheels. They also had many followers on Twitter and Facebook who were tracing their journey and vicariously enjoying their adventure, which included a trip through remote parts of Central Asia. The couple look tanned, joyous and relaxed — if a bit windblown — in the footage. It is apparent life on the road agreed with them.

‘Dangerous driving’

Thai Police Lt. Col. Supachai Luangsukcharoen said Monday that investigators found their bodies, their bicycles and their belongings scattered along a roadside, along with a pickup truck that crashed between some trees.

Supachai said the truck driver, 25-year-old Worapong Sangkhawat, was seriously injured in the crash. He told police his truck hit the cyclists as he was reaching down to pick up a cap from the vehicle’s floor, Supachai said. The driver has been released on bail and faces charges of causing death by dangerous driving, which carries a maximum penalty of 10 years in jail.

JLo’s New Beau Arrested Several Times

Although Jennifer Lopez and Casper Smart are said to be taking things slow with their new romance, her back-up dancer beau apparently likes to move fast – behind the wheel that is.

Smart, whose real name is Beau Paul Smart, is the dancer who appeared with JLo at the American Music Awards on Sunday night. He was formally charged with California Vehicle Penal Code which states, “A person shall not engage in, a motor vehicle exhibition of speed on a highway, and a person shall not aid or abet in a motor vehicle exhibition of speed on any highway.”

Smart has racked up a number of speeding and traffic-related charges, including speeding greater than 100 miles per hour and illegal drag racing, according to police records. He was also charged with driving without a valid license in 2004, 2006 and 2007, evading electronic toll charges in 2005 and exceeding maximum speeds of 65 miles per hour in 2004 and 2005. He has already had 3 warrants issued for his arrest for failure to appear at required court hearings, according to the exclusive report of RadarOnline.com.

Judge David Hancock issued a warrant for Smart’s arrest on April 15, 2010, for failure to appear, and set bail at $26k. The warrant was outstanding until February 8, 2011, at which time Smart’s lawyer formally pleaded his client not guilty to the charge, and the warrant was recalled.

Smart pleaded no contest on March 29, 2011 to the speeding charge, and appeared in court with his lawyer. JLo’s boyfriend was ordered to appear on January 5, 2012 for a sentencing and probation hearing.

On March 3, 2006, Smart was arrested for driving on a suspended license, not having insurance, and speeding. On March 11 of the same year, Judge Michael Vicencia issued a warrant for Smart for failure to appear in court at his arraignment. Bail was set at $5k. On January 10, 2007, Smart finally appeared in court, and pleaded no contest to not having a valid driver’s license, with the remaining charges dismissed. The warrant was recalled.

Smart was ordered to perform 86 hours of community service, instead of spending five days in county jail. On October 19, 2007, Smart was supposed to provide proof to the court that he had completed the community service. Smart had another warrant issued for failure to provide proof, and probation was revoked. Smart appeared at the Torrance courthouse on July 9, 2008 to pay his fine, and provided proof of completion of community service, and payment of his fine. The warrant was recalled.

In March, he pled no contest and is scheduled to appear in court on Jan. 5, 2012. But he must complete 10 days of community service before this court date. If found guilty, he faces up to 90 days in jail and a $500 fine if he doesn’t finish in time.

Casper and J-Lo met six months ago, when he was hired as one of her dancers. He has worked with BeyoncéNicki MinajEminemJordin Sparks, David Guetta and more.  He was even supposed to dance on the Michael Jackson tour. He has appeared in at least three episodes of Glee and is friends with Mark Salling. He is rumored to be in a romantic relationship with JLo. On Monday, a photo showing the two locked in a passionate kiss surfaced — a confirmation that they are indeed dating.
